As you could have guessed, it's very hot in Gaza. People there don't have many ways of cooling off, so they go to the beach every weekend. It's the only recreational area in Gaza. Unfortunately, they can only go to a small part of their beach.
The most polluted area of Gaza is in the center of the Gaza Strip and up to the north of Gaza City. So people have to go to the southern part of Gaza to swim. The only reason the southern part is clean enough to swim in is because an Israeli settlement used to be there, and the settlement had a sewage treatment plant to go along with it. Unfortunately, the Israelis removed the plant when they left.
The sewage treatment center in Gaza is built to only treat 40,000 cubic meters of sewage per day, but the people of Gaza produce over 60,000 cubic meters of sewage per day. Over 20,000 cubic meters of raw sewage is dumped into the ocean every day.
The Israelis continue to disallow more equipment to be sent into Gaza, even to clean the water. So the people of Gaza are forced to live next to a sea of their own sewage, their own bodily waste! That is neither healthy nor humane.
